ENDOWMENT FUND HONORS A MEMORY WHILE HELPING OTHERS
Ochsner Health System is pleased to announce the establishment of the Frances Lester Smith, M.D. Endowment Fund. The Fund is in honor of Dr. Frances Smith, who, for more than 30 years worked in the Emergency Room at Ochsner Main Campus in New Orleans and lost her battle to a rare form of cancer in 2011.
The Fund was established by Ms. Edna Smith, Dr. Smith's mother, to honor Dr. Smith's dedicated service to Ochsner Health System, the Emergency Department and the thousands of patients she treated. Proceeds from the Fund will be used for continuing medical education for all Emergency Department personnel.
Dr. Joseph Guarisco, chairman, Emergency Services, has also decided to name the Emergency Department's Conference Room in honor of Dr. Smith. "Dr Smith, throughout her career, was someone you could always count on to show respect and compassion for every patient she encountered," he says.
Ochsner Health System gratefully acknowledges Dr. Frances Smith's service and the generosity of Ms. Edna Smith in establishing this Fund.
